I met these ancestral sounds many years ago when I still had no contact with music in general. The sound Immediately captured me was that of a PanArt; I was enchanted and fascinated by its curves. My research began immediately, and gradually I discovered the name “HangDrum”.
Notes and rhythm, I didn’t even know what they were exactly until a few years ago, they frightened me. And yet everything has its own frequency, everything is in being able to perceive it and above all to be able to recognize and distinguish it.
The journey began with the djembe the “bongo” or African drum that is traditionally played in my hometown during the Pistoia Blues event. The sound was the faithful companion that I followed and introduced me to the traditional music of West Africa where time takes on a completely different meaning. We are still few in the world to produce it.
For me the turning point came when I met Alessio from HCT, as he showed me high-level tools and gave me the chance to catch a glimpse of where I could go.
So in every instrument that I do I go through the journey in music, the hammering that I do is rhythm and the frequencies I look for in the iron are the melody or better the language that the instrument will be able to “talk”.
What I try to sculpt in these instruments is the possibility of communicating not with words but with pure sounds.
